We’ve been making progress! Here’s what we talked about during the most recent meeting: COMPOSTING: The Unified Arts composting initiative is underway! The week-long data collection period was completed on Friday, 5/10, with EAC members weighing the food waste generated each day in one of the cooking classes. Now, we’ll be working to compile the data into a presentation. LEGISLATIVE ACTION: Following the previous Climate Strike on May 3rd, this week’s club meeting was devoted to discussing the upcoming May 24th Climate Strike and how to spread the word, as well as possible outreach to other high schools. Upcoming Events: Saturday to Sunday, 5/18-19: The Sunrise Movement is hosting a training this upcoming weekend for anyone who’s interested in learning how to be a good climate activist and/or who wants to join the movement. Spots are limited, but the link is here: http://bit.ly/bos-training-may2019 Wednesday, 5/22: Sunrise Boston is having a Full Hub Meeting in the Old South Church at 6:00-8:00PM. Open to anyone who’s interested, even if they’ve never gone to a meeting before. Sunday, 5/26: Habitat cleanup during Memorial Day Weekend. More details to come.

If you're curious about us or what we do and would like to learn more, you've come to the right place! Who are we? Brookline High School's Environmental Action Club is a group of students and adults who are committed to finding solutions to environmental issues in our community. What do we do? We've implemented various changes in our school and the larger Brookline community through education and advocacy. For example, we implemented a composting system in the school cafeteria, and we have lobbied and canvassed for several bills that would tackle carbon emissions and other environmental problems. We meet every Thursday during X-block in room 143 to meet and discuss our ongoing projects, as well as plan our next steps. Of course, a lot of the work is done outside of school as well; important events involving other climate organizations often happen in the evenings and on the weekends, and club members frequently put in their personal time to keep our projects moving. BHS Environmental Action Club is tackling multiple projects related to composting. After the initial implementation of a composting system in the BHS cafeteria, the club is currently working to expand composting to the Unified Arts building, as well as reaching out to the other elementary schools in the hopes of getting compost systems installed in all Brookline public schools. Within Brookline High's main building, there is also work being done by club members to further study and improve on the existing cafeteria composting system.
